The Priory Farm Westerham Ale Sausage is set to sizzle this summer

20 June 2017

Our master butcher Andy MacNeill has been working with a chef and brewer to create a unique beer sausage just in time for summer barbecues.

Called the Priory Farm Westerham Ale Sausage, it is a celebration of the finest ingredients from our butchery counter and an award-winning bitter from Westerham Brewery.

The banger is handmade by Andy and his team of experienced butchers using local free-range Sussex pork shoulder meat which has been marinated in Westerham Brewery’s top selling beer, British Bulldog -  a rich full bodied best bitter made from 100% Kent hops.

“We are renowned for creating new flavours of sausage here at Priory Farm so we welcomed the chance to use a local beer in the ingredients,” says butcher Andy. “Beer does amazing things to pork meat, making it a softer eat, so the combination has created an exceptional sausage that tastes great on its own, or perhaps with a pint of British Bulldog.”

The Priory Farm Westerham Ale Sausage is also on the menu at The Carpenters Arms, the 19th century pub situated in Limpsfield Chart, Oxted.

The pub's general manager chef, Dale Harris, who was involved in the sausage recipe development, says: “I am very excited to be able to offer our customers an outstanding product that is the result of a partnership between local quality producers, and delighted to be working with Priory Farm to produce what is a great tasting sausage.

“We make it our mission to source locally wherever possible and this sausage is a marriage of three counties – ingredients from Sussex and Kent and made in Surrey.”

Priory Farm currently has a wide selection of award-winning ales from Westerham Brewery, including British Bulldog, but this is the first time it has sold a local beer in a sausage rather than in a bottle.  Priory Farm Westerham Ale Sausage joins a delicious range of sausages on our butchery counter including lamb and mint, Lincolnshire, pork and bacon, and the popular cheese and marmite variety. We are open seven days a week and if you can't see what you need for your barbecue this summer, just ask our butchers and they will prepare it for you.
