Dame Judi Dench celebrates Priory Farm’s 60th anniversary

23 May 2017

We were delighted to welcome actress Dame Judi Dench to the Farm Shop earlier this month to help us celebrate our 60th anniversary.

The Skyfall star joined us as we commemorated our landmark year by donating 300 kilos of coins to Macmillan Cancer Support .

Dame Judi, who lives nearby, has long been a regular at the farm shop – so, naturally, she was delighted to share in the celebrations.

“Ever since I moved to this area, Priory Farm has been my local shop,” says the actress. “I go to it for everything, even presents. There’s always a wonderful welcome – it’s good for the soul as well as the stomach.”

Here Priory Farm, we have supported many local causes over the years, however we are currently fund-raising for Macmillan Cancer Support and used the occasion of our anniversary to present the 300 kilos of coins to the charity.

The loose change was donated by visitors to our Discovery Walk and together amounted to more than £2,000.

The coins presented to Macmillan’s fund-raising manager for Surrey, Emma Heley. “We’re thrilled that Priory Farm has chosen to support Macmillan and it was really lovely to have this generous donation presented to us by Dame Judi,” says Emma. “We’re still counting all the money but it looks like there will be enough to make a huge difference.

“For example, the money could go towards funding new Macmillan cancer nurse posts in Surrey or on grants for local people who are struggling financially as they go through their cancer treatments, so a big thank you to all at Priory Farm.”
