“I’ve recommended Priory Farm events to my friends … we usually have
lunch in the Coffee Shop and buy plants. It’s a very enjoyable time out.”

Keep the children busy during the holidays!

Build a cactus garden

Ralph, our Plant Centre cactus expert, has put together some hints about how to make your own cactus garden.

* Find a suitably sized plastic or pottery bowl no more than 8cm deep and without drainage holes or, if it has holes, you will need a saucer to stand it in.

* The cacti will need some desert-like compost i.e. gritty and free draining. You can mix some multi-purpose compost with an equal amount of horticultural grit to make a suitable growing medium.

* Nearly fill the bowl with compost, plant your cactus and cover the soil surface with stones. Do not water for a week, allow the cactus to settle in first.

* Place the finished bowl in a light position.

* Water once a week from April to September then leave the cactus totally dry
