Their breadth of stock is quite excellent and if, as I do,
you have four acres to plant, very competitive.

Trees and shrubs

Time to:
Plant fruit trees and shrubs between March and June so they can settle in before the summer. Buy our potted snowdrops “in the green”, which establish more easily than bulbs.  As well as the pretty common snowdrop “Galanthus nivalis”, we also stock “Flore pleno”, a double flowered variety. Top trees and expert advice
With experience gained over decades, Priory Farm Plant Centre has established a well-respected arboretum.  Here you can make your selection from over a hundred trees including ornamental, edible fruit and dwarf.  Our experts will be happy assist you in your choice and to offer on-going advice.

Fruit trees
Apple trees, pear trees, plum trees… if it’s a fruit tree you’re looking for, come along and choose from our wide range.

Small but perfectly formed – trees for the small garden
You don’t need a big garden to enjoy the beauty of trees, and a visit to Priory Farm will prove it.  We have a great selection of miniature winners including Amelanchier, a brilliant little tree that shows a froth of star-shaped flowers in the spring, red berries in summer and then out-performs some of its bigger rivals with its stunning autumn colour.  Amelanchier suit a wide range of soil conditions and do not need pruning.  Try planting an Amelanchier near an Acer or two for extra effect.

Acers for all
Japanese Acers, such as Acer palmatum “Oaskazuki” and “Garnet” are eye-catching statement plants for any patio, terrace or balcony.  When planted in azure glazed ceramic pots, their flaming scarlet and blazing orange tinted leaves drip gracefully.  We stock the three species: Acer japonicum, Acer palmatum and Acer shirasawanum. For larger gardens, there is nothing like Paperbark and Snakebark maples.  Their intricately etched bark has an extremely tactile texture.

Dance Of The Butterflies…
…is the translated name of one of our favourite trees, the Flowering Cherry “Prunus incisa Kojo-no-mai”.   It’s as pretty as it sounds, producing cascades of pinkish white blossom in the spring.  At Priory Farm we stock a big selection of Flowering Cherries suitable for all sizes of garden and with a range of flowering times from February to May.

First choice for shrubs
Come and see our fabulous range of spring and early-summer flowering showstoppers!

Rhododendrons and Azaleas
Famous for providing resplendent displays of colour from April to June, they require acidic soil and this makes them suitable for pots filled with ericaceous compost.  Suit semi-shade.

Camellias
The buds of Camellia japonica unfurl between February and April to reveal perfectly formed flowers set off against glossy evergreen leaves.

Chaenomeles (Japanese quince)
The Japanese quince is festooned in springtime with blushing rouge or pure white flowers.  We offer a tempting assortment of ice cream pink shades to embellish any bare wall or fence in your garden, even a shady one.  Two classic examples we sell are Chaenomeles x superba “Pink Lady” and “Crimson and Gold”.  Their fruits are similar to a small quince and are edible when cooked.

Forsythia
A lovely early-flowering shrub that is clothed in golden yellow “stars” in spring.

Wisterias
Wander through our enchanting choice of Wisteria sinensis (Chinese wisteria) and Wisteria floribunda (Japanese wisteria).  In May the flowers catch the breeze and release their evocative scent.
