“The main reason I became a fan of Priory Farm is that they grow a great deal of
their plants themselves and their home grown hanging baskets are renowned.”

Birdcare, tools and fertilisers

Feed the birds the Priory Farm way…
By choosing the correct feed, your garden birds will find it easier to feed and so will return again and again. We sell the best seeds and grains, chosen for year-round feeding and minimum waste. The CJ Birdcare range of bird feed products is now held in stock, and for safe feeding we have bird tables supplied by both Tom Chambers and Sparrow and Finch. And to help you care for your feathered friends we offer a wide variety of feeders and birdkeeping boxes made for different types of birds, such as swallows and housemartins. Many are accredited by the RSPCA, RSPB and/or The Royal Horticultural Society, so you can buy with full confidence.

Homes for hedgehogs (and toads, bats, bees, butterflies…)
Owning a garden, however small, provides a wonderful opportunity to play a positive part in protecting wildlife. This is also a good way of encouraging Mother Nature to help with pest control (hedgehogs, for instance, love to snack on slugs). Make your visitors feel welcome with our range of shelters: hedgehog homes, toad abodes and nesting boxes for bats, bees, butterflies and birds.

Our growing gift area has been created with the great outdoors in mind,
so expect to find a whole range of practical giftware and useful items such as
top-quality cast iron boot racks, door mats and knockers, Wellington boots and glass wasp traps that are so decorative you’ll want to use them all year round!

Being specialists in plant and garden care, we also stock an extensive range of tools and accessories including tree pruning tools such as secateurs, pruning saws, loppers, and pole tree pruners.
You’ll find lots of bright ideas like Prof. Graham’s re-useable ‘Water Slices’, sponge discs which, when soaked in water, swell to more than three times the original size and retain the water so that when it is placed in a hanging basket or container it can drastically reduce the time spent on watering.

We love the range of cutting tools from Bahco – lightweight, ergonomically designed yet very tough and durable – they make for effortless pruning.  And when it comes to keeping your topiary in trim, it’s hard to beat a pair of Felco secateurs.  Very much the tool of the serious gardener, these look great and their alloy handles stay rust-free.  We also stock a complete range of Felco spares.

For forks, spades and trowels, take a look at our traditional stainless steel selection from Wilkinson Sword and Burgon & Ball.  These make light work of digging in heavy soils as clay is less likely to cling to steel.  Clever!

Lighter, smaller tools for young gardeners
Do you know a budding Alan Titchmarsh or Charlie Dimmock?
If so, encourage their interest by investing in some top quality garden tools.  These are designed especially for younger gardeners and retain all the attributes of the adult versions yet are smaller and lighter.

Fertilisers, lawn care and solutions
We highly recommend Rootgrow. To quote Colin Crosbie, Co-ordinator of the Horticultural Training Programme at the RHS Garden, Wisley, "For me, using Rootgrow™ mycorrhizal fungi has become one of the most important ingredients to ensure planting success. It is common sense to offer a plant what it requires from nature at the very start, using Rootgrow mycorrhizal fungi simply speeds up the process."

If you could use some advice on which products to buy, do enlist the help of one of our garden specialists. For those who prefer to avoid using chemicals in their garden, Just Green Natural Born Killers are an effective alternative.  These work by introducing natural predators and we find they are especially successful at dealing with red spider mite, slugs and vine weevil grubs. Just Green Natural Born Killers appeal to both organic gardeners and to those who favour natural pest control.
